Ryūsei Ryokan

Located within Kaiko Park, the Ryūsei Ryokan is a place of gentle abode for those who take respite within it.

Description

The small and sculpted gardens outside of the ryokan and within its tall-fenced border are lush, blending rocky outcroppings and mossy lawns with curving aesthetics that move and bend around the maples and bushes just as much as the seasons themselves. Covered walkways, or engawa, ring most of the building and oftentimes for guests will have pillows set out for relaxing or meditating while looking out at the verdant atmopshere outside.

Inside there is a kitchenette, main dining room with a sunken fireplace, iori, low zataku tables, and a tokonoma alcove in which artistic items pertaining to the YSS Kaiyō II are displayed. On the ground floor there are two other rooms whose tatami floors can have futons pulled out to allow for sleeping of many occupants. The top floor is smaller and not often used by guests unless the party is large in which two futon can fit, but is generally considered an attic space.

Below is a visual description of the entrance from one of the trails in Kaiko Park's NorthWest portion:

Quote from Hanami Festival BBQ and Cookout of YE 45.
Hoshi strayed from one of the ginkgo tree-lined paths to walk up a steep set of stone steps. The pathway was unobtrusive and blended in with the natural scenery. The sappy green spring trees projecting overhead while ferns and undergrowth nipped at the stonework underfoot. In front of her, she could see the wooden garden gate to the ryokan open wide and invitingly. Its cedar gabled roof caught the dappled lighting splaying from the trees overhead.

The onsen is small and not meant for large parties. The black lava rocks contrast with the steamy pale waters fed by an underground spring. There are stoneworks tucked between maple and bamboo trees alongside a shishi-odoshi and a rock formation that forms over a corner of the water. There is a small washroom that connects to this private section of the ryokan which is the only way to enter it. The attic space has a window that looks down on the onsen as well as some of the trails of Kaiko Park proper.

History

Kaiko Park was built by an anonymous donor in YE 44 in part to serve as a War Memorial for Kuvexian War. Before the park opened, Hoshi invited past and present Kaiyo crewmen to the park as a whole before it opened to the public and to sleep at the ryokan during Aiko's birthday and the Year-End Traditions.1) To celebrate Hanami in YE 45, Hanako, her yeoman Victory, Nicholas Saiga, and Hoshi enjoyed a barbecue in the outdoor area.2)

Before a dangerous mission, Aiko and Hoshi discussed the mission brief over some snacks then took a relaxing dip in the onsen in the back of the ryokan.3)

Transportation

There are train stops that lead to Kaiko Park from different PAINT routes, but once in the park one must ascend a trail in the park to get to the entrance. There is a separate back entrance up against the Western street-side of the park which, by way of several locked gates, deliverables and staff can get in more easily.

People

The ryokan is sometimes empty, but oftentimes Taiyou Hoshi brings crew or meets friends here, such as Hanako and Nicholas Saiga along with crewmen. The Kaiyo ship MEGAMI, Boss, believes Kaiko Park to be her second home. She is often found here, too, especially with Ketsurui Aiko who is known to utilize the ryokan as a quick getaway, taking naps between important appearances on busy holidays.4)

RP Opportunities

Those that served in the war can request to stay at Ryūsei Ryokan. Enjoy a typical and traditional Yamataian experience at this ryokan.5)

Ascribing to how these type of houses are laid out with things like an iori, or sunken fireplace in the middle of the room, tatami mats that futons are brought out to sleep on, and engawa or covered outdoor corridors next to lush, sculpted gardens will help describe this ryokan properly.
