The United Norian Imperium has a ever diversifying cultural identity and has several recognized ethnic groups.
The History of the Norian People and Nations describes the journey of the Norians from BYE 1002 to the current modern times. Although their history is dotted with devastating warfare and troubles, they have managed to keep a strong cultural identity. This blueprint of commonality is shared between all of their kind. They have developed as a people into a diverse and resilient people. In YE 46, they have taken a step in a new direction as they move to the Kosuke Sector in the SARPiverse.
What does it mean to be Norian?
Being a Norian goes beyond the mere biology of the Norian Species. Identifying as a “Norian” refers to the unique culture, characteristics, symbols, expressions and the condition of being “Norian”
There are fundamentals in which define the characteristics of being Norian in the modern times.
Symbols that help define what it is to be Norian have a predominate role in their society. Symbols of birds (phoenix, falcons) and other animals like spiders and Insects native to their capital worlds are found in everything from their popular culture to literature and art. Despite their technological advancement they continue to have a reverence for nature.
The Crixa, which is a symbol that represents the Ysi that a Norian is born into or becomes apart of has importance in their culture. More noticeably, the Crixa of the ruling Ysi is generally a symbol of prosperity and unity that all Norians know and respect. Flags and Seals related to the ruling sovereigns are also easily recognizable.
Other symbols that represent Norian culture are things like the logos of Sports Franchises, like Ronj Dauncu and Prosmausrol. The symbols of major corporations such as Lux Aurora and Lo'ken Institute, or military units are also recognizable as part of their culture.
Music and Dance are a way that Norians express emotions and creativity. Some events such as concerts and dance competitions are broadcasted across the Imperium. They several unique instruments such as the Luminharp, Aeosynth Flute, Sylphvibran, etc. Music that is developed within the nation are generally iconic and known to much of the population.
The United Norian Imperium has several distinct ethnic groups in their population.
The Norian'Rolthil'Quaen: The Norian'Rolthil'Quaen or “Quaen” as known to most, are an ethnic group that is defined by the Divergence that occurred during the Falcon Movement. Caecyan Eitan's younger brother Ujin Eitan led a group of people to the Quaen Universe who refused to believe in the Church of the Builders. Rather than believe the Builders and Espra were gods, they saw through the ruse and sought to know the truth about the origin of these beings found their universe of origin, and went there to see for themselves.
Norian'Rolthil'Quaen as they became known settled on a planet called Senneril where they studied the ruins of the civilization that once occupied the planet. Being separate from the rest of the Norian people, they developed their own culture and technology. Rather than focusing on war, they focused their technological development on saving worlds ruined by it, in expectation and observance of what followed in the history of the rest of their kind. The Quaen returned to the United Norian Imperium and repaired the worlds that the Craethel War had left scarred and broken.1)2)3)
The Xythael are a group of colonists that left their home behind during the Colonization of Ayenee in YE 04. The Xythael settled outside of the colony of Surrune in Eastern Ayenee in the footprint of the bloody conquests led by Adrin Eitan .4)5) They choose what they determined to be a simple life and left the Technology and advancements behind in favor of living off the land in Ayenee. Adrin Eitan is known for having lived with Xythael for several years even though he was not a traditionalist.
Although the Xythael have chosen a life without technology, they have developed a strong warrior culture and have participated in several wars in Ayenee.
The Vespan Norians are a biologically engineered sub-species of the Norians that were developed by Aerum Eitan in YE 29. Vespans are known for their advanced intelligence, engineering and architecture. They settled on Vespa Lakara, which was the home of the first laboratory that grew them. Their population continues to grow as more are made and some naturally reproduce. In YE 46, the Free Commonwealth of Vespa declared independence from the United Norian Imperium. A war declaration followed after the atrocities committed by Venquia Vaelaris Orinas came to light.6)7)
The Free Commonwealth of Vespa has since welcomed any rebel from the United Norian Imperium with a goal of restoring order and unity in their former nation.
The first group of Norians that immigrated to the Yamatai Star Empire after they thought everything in their home universe had been lost. The Arrival of the Norians became a defining moment in their lives as they went from being refugees to having a state of their own in the Empire, called Tsenlan. The state of Tsenlan has brought together both Norians and Yamataian into a cultural melting pot of diversity. 8)9)10)
Even after it was discovered that their previous home had survived, the people of Tsenlan elected to remain part of the Yamatai Star Empire. The majority of Tsenlanese had built businesses and lives there and had no desire to leave and have to start all over again in the United Norian Imperium.
