RHI's products in the past included aerospace and automotive components, life support systems, elevators, heavy equipment, defense products, power generation equipment, ships, small craft, and railway systems. But with the establishment of the Ryu Keiretsu, RHI is looking to re-establish itself in markets it once sold to in the past. The Ryu-Mizumitsu Clan decided to first start with defense with the Star Army of Yamatai embroiled in a war with the Kuvexians. It was 2 parts patriotism and 1 part opportunity to return to former glory.
The corporation in YE 42 received a contract for the frame of the M19 Ryoko Mecha, jump-starting their mecha and defense ambitions.
The operations of Ryu Heavy Industries is presently split into the following departments:
A core and historic department, aerospace and shipbuilding is responsible for the manufacture of starships, space stations, shuttles, subcomponents, etc. Many designs are developed by other corporations of the Ryu Keiretsu. Products are manufactured for Ryu Keiretsu internal use and interested 3rd parties.
A recent department, Defense is responsible for the design and manufacture of anything that could be used for defense. This includes power armor, tanks, mecha, and subcomponents for military aerospace designs. They are also responsible for the development of new materials to be used in designs and sold to the market.
Responsible for the production of energy-producing systems, the Energy Department is the smallest as it is mostly a pure research department with some manufacturing roles.
In addition to their own departments, Ryu Heavy Industries also is directly responsible for a number of subdivisions that have not been split into their own independent corporations.
Homna Motors' orgins are one of redemption. While Mizumitsu Benji was out on one of his observation “walks” in YE 40, he discovered his vehicle had been stolen. He managed to track it down to a chop shop in the deserts off of Ternifac.
Instead of calling it immediately to the local police, he decided to instead watch the gang of bored leisure class youngsters disassemble parts of his vehicle and add them to a hoverbike of a configuration he had never seen before.
Seeing enough, he finally gave them an ultimatum: spend time in jail or apply their skills in a more useful venue, seeing the quality of craftsmanship despite the parts were stolen. There was some initial fighting from the most impulsive of members but it swiftly ended when the NPF arrived and their leader, Saito Mieko, accepted Benji's offer.
It got the majority a reduced sentence, which gave Benji time to convince his colleagues in the Ryu half of the clan to offer support. Skeptical at first, they ultimately conceded when an associate of Benji's Homna Yuna offered to lead the core research team. Thus Homna Motors was born, youthful ingenuity and proven Star Army of Yamatai engineer expertise.
It currently consists of a number of R&D departments:
Ryu Systems and Instruments was created by the Ryu-Mizumitsu Clan as an answer to reduce their reliance on foreign computer sources. Recruiting former Information Technology specialists leaving service with the Star Army of Yamatai and experts from Nepleslian permanent immigrants, the corporation has a more start-up atmosphere instead of a more mature corporate setting found in the rest of the Keiretsu.
Tasked with developing new technologies and products making use of new/existing technologies. RSI's main focus for the remainder of the 40s is to develop artificial intelligence, how it can supplement cybernetics and the digital mind OS of their own. R&D is currently headed by Liu Wei, a technology specialist of Nepleslian origin.
Formed before the foundation of the Yamatai Star Empire, Hwang Metalworks (now Hwang-Yamatai Corporation) was a little known refiner of metal ores for larger companies. A more formal business alliance was cultivated with the Ryu-Mizumitsu Clan, which granted them a more steady source of business despite the Ryu-Mizumitsu enterprises were equally as unknown.
When the Ryu-Mizumitsu Clan fell into tough times from the wars, the old business alliance collapsed. In YE 35 Hwang Metalworks merged with Ryu-owned Yamatai Chemical Industries. The merger greatly expanded their range of final products they could offer to the market. Their name changed from Hwang Metalworks to Hwang-Yamatai Corporation to reflect this acquisition.
The Ryu-Mizumitsu Clan bought a controlling percentage in YE 42.
Hwang-Yamatai Corporation does the majority of their refinement and manufacturing within space stations in the Tatiana system. This is largely done to prevent the by-products of their work from spoiling the natural beauty of the planet. Presently, operations are dividing into product types.
Hwang-Yamatai Corporation refines metals and chemicals to create a variety of products such as electronics boards, synthetic fibers, polymers, and nanocomposites. Below are the following materials the corporation is capable of producing without outside help or has a license to create.
Below are current designs or products Ryu Heavy Industries.
Below are products and technologies the Ryu Heavy Industries has publicly announced or is currently researching.
