Vaelaris was born in 192 BYE on the capital world of Lorenz to Lorfor and Nyla Orinas, both of whom were military officers. His childhood was marked by solitude, as his parents' service often left him alone, and his introverted nature made it difficult for him to forge strong friendships. During the Umarian Wars (YE 25–YE 30), Vaelaris enlisted in the military but saw little combat, having been captured and held as a prisoner of war on Laeyra Prime. His time in captivity was defined by his resourcefulness, gaining a reputation among fellow prisoners for his ability to negotiate with captors and secure scarce necessities. After his release, he was honorably discharged, but his experiences left lasting physical and emotional scars.

In YE 32, after recovering from the malnutrition and afflictions caused by his imprisonment, Vaelaris pursued higher education on the frontier colony of Amara, earning a degree in political science. He initially worked for his Ysi's Gilmar Bank, but in YE 40, when the Craethel attacked Amara, he shifted his focus to humanitarian efforts, aiding displaced refugees. His political career began upon his return to the restored Norian homeworld, where he crossed paths with Sylix Lunari. Vaelaris served as Master of Treasury until YE 46, when Sylix, now Jol’Aester, appointed him as Chancellor following the death of Tetsuya Eitan (Airwin Caeyara)¹⁰⁾, cementing his role in the political sphere.

Vaelaris grew up in a situation where his father, Lorfor was abusive to him and his mother. In YE 46 just before his appointment as Chancellor, he assassinated his father to become the leader of the Orinas, by making it look like an engineering mistake on one of the Ysi's privately owned ships.
