The Emergency Ration pill was first introduced to the Star Army of Yamatai in YE 31. It was first designed by Ketsurui Zaibatsu and was produced by Ketsurui Zaibatsu, Motoyoshi Fleet Yards and NovaCorp. While originally designed for use by the Star Army of Yamatai, it was decided almost immediately that the ration pill would also be made available to civilians as well, so it was produced in bulk in the Yamatai Star Empire and was sold in the Star Army Surplus Store.

In YE 44, the Yugumo Corporation took over for the production previously held by Motoyoshi Fleet Yards. Production is done for that corporation at the Star Army Ration Factory in the Nabari District of Jiyuu III.

The pill contains densely compressed nutrients and minerals necessary for maintaining a healthy person ²⁾ for the equivalent of a single meal, inside a specifically designed chemical “cell” structure. These “cells” are very similar to microscopic honeycombs and are very strong, able to compress and hold in the contents of the pill. It reacts chemically to almost nothing…except generic chemicals found in stomach acid.

Once the stomach acid levels reach a certain point, the cells are gradually eroded from the outside, resulting in a simple time-release function. This time-release function makes sure a steady flow of nutrients and vitamin paste is fed into the digestive system, staving off hunger more efficiently. Also, once the level of stomach acid in the vicinity of the pill is lessened below the minimal threshold by the introduction of paste, the process will slow down or stop. This effect means that the pill is suitable for those with any size stomach, even an NH-33M (Miniature) or a child. In fact, in those cases, the pill will last much longer.

These pills, engineered to only react to stomach acids and their contents sealed within their microscopic cells, are excellent for use in many forms of environments, and their small size makes them easy to store. While heavy for a pill, three weeks of pills can be easily stored in a packet on the belt of Star Army Uniforms, or in a container within a pocket for civilians. They are packaged standardly in a convenient tin with a green and red leaf on it which holds up to 30 pills.

The Emergency Ration Pill provides nutrition for the equivalent of one standard meal.

People with stomach ulcers or situations which alter the levels of stomach acid in the stomach must take special care when using these pills. This is not a concern in Nekovalkyrja or other Yamataians, but can be for Human who have altered their stomachs with cybernetics. Humans who have lowered their stomach acid levels to carry contraband, called ‘mules’, may not be able to attain the necessary stomach acid levels to effectively use these pills.

Overdose is theoretically not possible with this medication.
