Training soldiers for the Star Army of Yamatai has changed over the years; this page provides information on the various processes and the most recent changes implemented under Shinja Noriko-Chusa leadership.
The production of Sprites depended heavily on the digital brain of the Nekovalkyrja. Programming was essentially predefined modules that would be loaded at the time of manufacture. Training consisted of two downloads, a standard personality matrix, and career information.
When a Sprite was produced it would receive a standard rudimentary personality. Their rudimentary personality matrix gave them initially very little sense of self and a definite lack of socialization. Most saw themselves as tools or that they belonged to a given vessel. This had the unfortunately side-effect of hindering sprites ability to deal with transferring to another vessel. Sprites were also capable of being controlled by the ship's AI.
Sprites received a standard level of technical knowledge to perform its intended duties. This basically consists of book knowledge of how to use respective equipment, and procedures.
In YE 31 the creation of sprites was effectively banned by the Yamatai Star Empire Anti-Slavery laws.
The production of mass produced soldiers (MPS) was a slight enhancement to the creation of a standard Sprite.
MPS enjoyed a more developed personality matrix. Though not as complex as civilians, it did give a more defined sense of self, and a better ability to socialize. It also had a very strong, bordering on fanatical sense of loyalty to the Empire. Most MPS start life believing they are nothing but weapon systems.
MPS received a standard level of technical knowledge to perform its intended duties. This basically consists of book knowledge of how to use respective equipment, and procedures.
Originally Nekovalkyrja and Yamataians (NH-22C) were subject to being mass produced. Later Yamatai Star Empire laws were passed prohibiting the production of Yamataians (NH-22C).
With the advent of anti-slavery laws, the training of Star Army personnel was refined to produce a better rounded individual. Training does take longer than the Sprite or MPS methods because individuals also receive hands on training and experience prior to being released for service.
Training for species with digital brains consists of a download followed by practical hands on training.
For Nekovalkyrja upon creation they spend 30 days in socialization training. This training helps to create a reasonably balanced personality and an individual with basic social interaction skills.
For Nepleslian and Human all course material is studied in a classroom environment.
For Nepleslian and Human an experimental training method exists. A helmet with similar properties to the Synaptic Interface Unit (SIU) of the Type 30 Mental Transfer and Backup Unit is used. It allows the curriculum to be download via direct input along the audio and visual neural pathways. This process must be repeated every other day for a five day period to ensure sufficient retention. Hands on training begin the day after the transfer is complete. Ocular migraines, headaches, ringing in the ears are common side effects experienced after the download sessions. These typically pass within twenty four hours.
Star Army of Yamatai training falls into three categories, Standard, Specialization, and Advanced.
This first block of training constitutes the standard basic training all members of the Star Army of Yamatai receive.

When determining your character's starting age after training:
If you choose to have your character take Specialization training, you would add the duration of that to the above starting values.
