IIS "Wings of Flying" Aerial Movement Gear

The “Wings of Flying” is a product to assist Elysians or flightless individuals, made by Iemochi Innovations & Sales. It comes in two parts, a wing brace which includes thrusters, and a version which features cybernetic wings which have the brace built in, that can be affixed to the body.

History

The Wings were designed in YE 44 by Iemochi Innovations & Sales. They were requested by Iemochi Seinosuke after expressing a wish to be able to fall asleep while flying with his wings and wake up at wherever he was travelling to, as some birds (and his wife) could do. Some prototypes were designed, and tested by the Elysian, until one fit his standards. It was then opened for public purchase. Later, the product was expanded to include cybernetically controlled wings which have the same feature set.

About the "Wings of Flying"

The “Wings of Flying” are designed to be strapped or otherwise affixed to Elysian wings, to provide extended speed and endurance for flight. They include thrusters which give additional speed and agility while airborne. Also included is a wing-brace for the thrusters to sit on and to give increased strength to the wings for any extra aerodynamic strains. The wing brace can lock so that the user can sleep while flying or otherwise rest their back muscles.

The onboard computer, hydraulic pistons, sensor pad and ion thrusters themselves are electrically powered, which can come from a variety of connected sources - a universal power/data connector is included on a retractable cable located on the sensor pad. Most often, the user simply carries a battery on their person, or hooks the “Wings” up to another worn source of energy. All parts of the item are weatherproof and can even be used in space with an appropriate Spacesuit and a bridge to feed sensor data from the spine into the sensor pad.

Appearance

The product in its base form appears as a length of articulating ADNR hydraulic pistons, which have some telescopic abilities to extend to fit larger wings. They have compressed Bulletproof Wool pads inside of several clamps which close and can be locked around where the bony edge of wing would be situated. On the far edges, where the wings terminate, two thin and lengthy engines extend down alongside the plumage. A small sensory pad and onboard computer is located amongst the rods over where the spinal column would be, towards the top of the product.

With the optional extra wing prosthetics, the above is pre-situated into a set of carbon fibre articulating wings, which can be secured to the body by surgical attachment or usage of adhesive similar to that used in Barkskin. They are attached to the pistons in such a way they move alongside them. It is heavily advised not to paint the wings, as it can affect their weight and aerodynamic properties. They come as a standard silver-black of carbon fibre.

Usage

The user spreads the product out on the ground, then lies down so that their wings and spine are lined up with the ADNR rods. If it is not the correct size, they can manually extend the pistons to the right length so that the thrusters are positioned at the ends of their wings. Once satisfied, they plug in the power. Then, they lean back so that the onboard computer and sensor pad can read the electrical activity in their spine. The system will start up and the clamps will slowly close to affix to the Elysian's wings. Once this is done, the user can stand up.

Next, they callibrate the product by moving their wings while keeping the rest of their body straight. The onboard computer and sensor will callibrate to determine what electrical signals through the spine mean what. After this is done, the hydraulic pistons will begin to actively move to assist the wearer's actions, signalling this stage of callibration is complete.

Next, the user curls their toes while keeping their body still. This callibrates the system to fire the thrusters depending on how clenched the toes are. Once this is done, the thrusters will spin at idle for a moment, then stop, to indicate the this step is done.

The final callibration is to spread one's toes in three second bursts. This is registered to mean that the system should maintain its current speed, altitude and relative wing position. By doing this, the user can go asleep or otherwise rest and allow the system to continue working. To signal that the callibration is complete, the wings will lock up so that the user can't move until they spread their toes for three seconds continuously to unlock them.

Now, the user can attempt to take off and the system will assist. They can flap, or simply curl their toes to launch. From this point, they can control their additional speed by curling their toes to various degrees. They can lock or unlock the system by spreading their toes for three seconds.

For users that bought the carbon fibre wing addon, the same applies but one simply needs to affix the system to their bodies manually rather than using the clamp system, then begin callibration.
