The Hammer Orbital Gun Platform is planned to be the first and last lines of defense to the planet Kennewes. The impending war with the Green faction of Democratic Imperium of Nepleslia encouraged Red officials to have a defensive measure against enemy ships designed that could effectively stop an advancing enemy fleet. The use of the Hammer is usually narrowed to defensive positioning around a planet or set of planets, around a space station or another point of interest. Because of the relative cheapness of the Hammer Orbital Gun Platform, it is common to deploy several of these.
However, because of the relatively stationary nature of the Hammer Orbital Gun Platform, the ship itself does not have the means to travel large distances in a short span of time, meaning that deployment and placement are key issues when considering their use. Because of this, the Hammer is recommended to be used mainly as a defensive measure.
After the recent attack on Nepleslia by Red forces, the Red Star Army knew that a new means of protection against the superior numbers of the Green Star Army were needed. As a result, Geshrinari Shipyards, instead of suggesting purchase of old, previously-developed ways of keeping assets safe, began to develop their own versions of what they believe would better safeguard Kennewes. The Hammer-Class Orbital Gun Platform was one of the results of that labor.
The idea behind the Hammer is one of simplicity; this orbital gun platform does away with most of the luxuries you would find on a regular space station or star fortress, instead opting to only serve one main purpose: defense by aggressive means. As a result, roughly 80% of the platform is used for the main cannon and weapon systems, while the remaining 20% is for use by the crew. One Red testing sergeant summed up the thought behind this design process rather well when he stated:
“LESS SHIP, MORE GUN!”

The Hammer is fundamentally limited to two decks; the Cannon Maintenance Platform and the Command Ring. All other areas of the vessel are not traversable by common means.
The Command Ring is the place where most of the Hammer’s crew resides and operates. It is a large circular ring-like structure, connected to the mid-section of the main cannon and cannon maintenance platform through a series of tube-like passageways. The Command Ring houses the Command Bridge, Armor Bays, Cargo and Storage and Crew Quarters. All rooms in the Command Ring are colored in a grayish tone paired with a dark-green carpet-like material on the flooring, save for the Cargo and Armor Bays, in which the metal is laid bare.
The Command Bridge is the operations center of the entire vessel. The Bridge itself is fairly standard fare, with two levels of elevated area. The first one, highest in the room, holds the captain’s chair and console, while the level below provides similar consoles and seats for the rest of the bridge crew. Each section is fenced off by a metal handrail, and each elevated area is connected via two small staircases on the left and right of the platforms.
There are two Crew Quarter areas on the Hammer, located either on the left or right of the Command Bridge. Each of these sections is broken into a series of small rooms for living conditions to the crew. Each room is fairly small and simple, consisting of a bed, small desk and bathroom area near the back. Each room is lit with a small lighting fixture on the ceiling. Unlike most other ships, the Hammer Orbital Gun Platform does not have a different, more luxurious room
==== Armor and Cargo Storage Areas====The Cargo area and Armor bays have been clumped together to save space in the Command Ring. A series of bulkhead doors line the outer edge of the Armor and Cargo area, allowing access to space for armors, as well as allowing cargo to be quickly moved in and out of storage.
The Cannon Maintenance Platform run along most of the length of the main cannon’s topside, and every so often breaks into a long arm-like structure that reaches down close to the center of the cannons width. This platform is used for both shielding the main cannon with an extra layer of armor and shielding, as well as performing maintenance on the cannon should it become damaged during an attack.
The Hammer uses a standard processing computer. Its job is to calculate courses, battle telemetry and data, target tracking and also to oversee the general well being of the ship and crew. A model including a humanoid holographic representation of the ship is optional. Interfacing with the AI can be done by just speaking into the air, using holographically materialized consoles or the numerous solid consoles around the Command Ring and Maintenance Platform.
Red entry-level Aether Generators use scalar energetics to harness dimensional energy, producing an insane amount of clean and constant power. It is used primarily to power the main gun, gravific drives and area of effect jamming systems. However due to the fact that Aether generators affect the dimensional branes, sensitive hyperspace scanners may detect this and pinpoint accurately the position of the Hammer. Because of the relative newness of using Aetheric weaponry, however, the Aether Tap on the Hammer is prone to becoming unstable.
Red development into Fusion power is almost as advanced as their Green cousins. Due to its secondary nature, it only provides enough power for everything else but FTL travel and the firing of the main weapon. Its relative low-tech-ness allows it to remain active undetected.
There are ten escape pods on the Hammer, all of them located in specific positions around the Command Ring. Each escape pod can take 15 people with enough food, water and oxygen for two weeks. The pod will automatically put itself into a re-entry position when caught by the gravity of a planet.
Fire fighting systems are designed to be automatic. The security cameras that are present in each and every room and hallway are equipped with a hose that would spray heat retardant foam at the source of the inferno. However, compressed tanks are also available near frequented corridors.
Nanobot repair systems are present onboard the Hammer. Starting from a central position, many penny thick magnetic tunnels run around the ship and are interwoven amongst the perforations in the hull. It is through these tunnels that the nanobots are able to repair hull breaches or other problems in hull integrity.
Atmospheric and water recyclers and regulators: These are located in the engineering section. Air and water is circulated through sectioned vents around the ship, as well drawn in and filtered to quickly remove any bacteria or harmful airborne agents from the air. Certain rooms have designer atmosphere filters.
The Hammer carries a simple yet proven set of Ion Drives, for use of propelling the ship into position should the Hammer ever need to leave its assigned area of placement. The engines are slow to accelerate and have a relatively low top speed, but since speed of the vessel was never a key issue, these discrepancies were never fixed.
The ship propels itself at speeds many times the speed of light by generating continuum distortions and nesting them to create asymmetric peristaltic fields. This allows the ship to travel thousands of times the speed of light. Distortion-based systems allow the ship to stop or move nearly instantly because the ship has not “moved”. This particular set of gravatic drives, however, are only used for moving the ships alignment for firing the main cannon, and not for actual space travel.
The Combined Shielding Systems are a combination of standard Energy, Deflection, Distortion, Repulsion and Anti-Gravity. The Red Star Army, noting the usefulness of standardizing all shields into a single system, reverse-engineered their own version of the CSS. However, since the Nepleslian Reds never expect the Green Star Army to delve into interphased weaponry, decided to neglect the distortion shielding.
On top of the usual Laser and Radio, many other systems onboard can be utilized for a variety of communications. Subspace, Tachyon and Hyperspace are available provided that their systems of origin are not destroyed.
Full-spectrum optical and electromagnetic spectrum sensors, zero-point field distortion and interferometry sensors, magnetic resonance, gravitic distortion sensors, and sub-quantum particle wave sensors.
The Hammer is capable of projecting a powerful artificial gravitic field that disrupts the operations of FTL drives of all types in a specific area of effect (minimal effective AOE is a 2,000 meter cubic area; maximum AOE is 2 AU cubic area). This is useful in preventing enemy vessels from escaping from battle or simply hyperspacing past a Hammer defense network. The interdiction field also has a secondary mode that can defeat the interdiction efforts of enemy forces in a localized area roughly half the size of its normal operation.
“Hammerfall” Shock Cannon (1): Another jab at aetheric weaponry from Red scientist, the first version of the exceptionally large aetheric-energy cannon tailored specifically to be used with the Hammer, as well as another step for Nepleslia into aetheric energy use and application. Upon firing, the Hammerfall Shock Cannon will release a large beam of aetheric energy, spanning most of the width of the main cannon, towards an intended target.
Pincer Plasma Turret (30): These plasma turrets excites matter (Tungsten in this case) into a state of plasma, contains it in a magnetic field and fires it out at high velocities. The outgoing plasma is stabilized by five rotating barrels like a chaingun with two chainguns total on each turret. The turrets are shaped like a raised circle. When activated the circle splits at the sides to bring up the barrels. This arrangement allows the turret to be sealed up too by lowering the chaingun into the wings and closing the circle. There are 30 of these turrets meticulously placed around the hull of the Hammer to ensure full coverage. Control of the turrets are automated to semi-automated.
