Delsaurian Dusk

Delsaurian Dusk is an expensive liquor made from the seeds of plants native to the desert environment on Delsauria. It is known for its warm, mellow taste, vibrant golden color and an unusually relaxing aftertaste. Unique properties in the grain cause it to amplify the qualities as it ages, making old bottles of this liquor very sought after by the wealthy as after-dinner drinks.

History

Delsaurian Dusk was first pressed and aged in the earliest decades of pre-spaceflight Delsaurians society. It was one of the few ways to make something useful from the seeds in question, and its intoxicating abilities and non-perishable nature made it a useful trade item for travelers and caravans. Since the rise of the Yamatai Star Empire, Delsaurian Dusk accrued a reputation as a valuable and rare liquor, and in some circles is a sign of good connections or wealth. After Delsauria became part of the Democratic Imperium of Nepleslia, the liquor became more common on the open market, and only the older and more mature years of Delsaurian Dusk retained their air of rarity and exclusivity.

Delsaurian Dusk is often golden in color, with older blends taking on a darker hue as they age. All ages of dusk have a throat-warming, mellow taste, with an aftertaste often called 'relaxing'. Younger Dusk is exceedingly mild while still being intoxicating, and older Dusk has a more pronounced 'dry' flavor.

Packaging

Ancient Delsaurian Dusk was stored in skins made from the organs of harvested animals. Once Delsaurians began glass-shaping, glass became the preferred material for Dusk containers. Dusk bottles are traditionally designed to be sturdy and thick-stemmed with reinforced bottoms, to help the glasses stay intact during transport. Good dusk is corked so that it can more easily age as it is stored; cheap dusk is kept in sealed bottles.

Pricing

Pricing for bottles of Dusk is determined by vintage, with all vintages sold after YE 27 having the same or similar value, and every year before that date making it exponentially more expensive.
