Photon Stealth Armour

The Photon Stealth Armour was designed in mid YE 40 and is manufactured by Galactic Horizon. The suit is designed to accommodate its user in a range of situations including; stealth operations, reconnaissance, combat support roles and other low to mid intensity situations.

About the Armor

The Photon Armour is a full set of personal combat armour designed for less intensive situations and focusses more on stealth and mobility. With specialised camouflage and other low profile enhancements the suit not only protects the wearer but provides an advantage in specific situations. Its main features include the chameleon like camouflage system, a frictionless design to prevent the armour from rubbing and making sounds on itself as well as sensor evasion countermeasures.

History

The design was constructed by the Horizon team during a bimonthly brainstorm session among the design team, after approved by Riccard it was sent to development. After being checked over and fine-tuned on paper the name armour was prototyped and finalised, with the production method honed and the finer details polished the new suit was officially completed mid YE 40.

Appearance

The Photon Stealth Armour is a basic suit of body armour which is sealed head to toe, with armour plates around the chest and shoulders area which extends down the arms along with a set on the thighs that covers down to the feet ending in boots.

The helmet is minimalistic and has a simple slit style visor which displays the environment on the HUD within the helmet in the chosen optical mode; standard, thermal, night vision and sonar mapping. The default colours of the armour is primarily black and grey with gold highlights

Advantages

The Photon Armour was designed to be a suit of armour that could protect its wearer in a fight but with more intention to never starting a fight in the first place. The Photon is lightweight and flexible to provide unrestricted movement to the wearer, its surface is coated in a smart substance which allows it to project specific light and colours, and effectively act as chameleon-like camouflage. In addition to camouflage the suit can modify its exterior temperature to evade thermal scans.

The second most notable feature of the Photon is the mobility pack built into the chest piece, combining an almost undetectable combustion jumppack model with the line pack included in the Adrenaline Utility Gear. The mobility pack has taken the best of both worlds with a silent running high strength winch, compressed oxygen storage and an almost undetectable combustion method to accommodate rocket powered leaps.

Drawbacks

The Photon was designed for low and mid intensity situations and as a result cannot hold out under sustained fire or in unforgiving environments with gravity exceeding 2g, the limited oxygen supply it carries is only good for up to 48 hours including air recycling.

The armour itself was built to accommodate mobility rather than combat and as such is low tiered on the damage scale making it ineffective at stopping higher calibre munitions. In addition, while the armour may contain camouflage against visual and thermal sensors it is still a physical object and will be easily detected by sonar and other wave based detection.

Mobility

The Photon does not boost the wearers speed or strength but does have several smaller enhancements. Each joint in the suit is crafted to avoid movement restriction in the slightest allowing the wearer to move however they like and take advantage of any natural or developed flexibility they may possess.

The mobility pack built into the chest piece provides the wearer with the ability to perform rocket assisted leaps and movements as well as containing the winch and cable for scaling tall structures either direction.

Armor Size

As the armour is personnel sized suit it does not add a great deal to the wearers existing dimensions and the increase is simply caused by the extra layer.

Height Adds 5cm to wearers height
Width Adds 4cm to wearers width
Length Adds 4cm to wearers length
Weight 35kg

Getting In and Out

The Photon is made up of separate armour pieces and getting in and out of it is as simple as getting dressed. The chest piece slips over the head of the wearer followed by the legs which then attach to the bottom of the chest, afterwards the boots and gloves are put on and attached to the legs and sleeves respectively. Finally the helmet is put on and sealed to the chest, closing the seal of the armour which can be sustained in a vacuum as long as there is oxygen supplied from the pack. To remove the armour the steps are followed in reverse.

Controlling the Armor

The suit is not like power armour and does not need any form of extra motor control, it is simply used like a set of heavier clothing however the various HUD options and some extra functions of the suit are controlled via a small terminal on the underside of each forearm. This includes the mobility pack and the sensor countermeasures and camouflages.

Optionally an Aurora Synaptic Controller Interface can be installed in the helmet to allow for these functions to be controlled directly by thinking them, reducing reaction times and leaving both hands free to use.

Systems

The systems included in this armour suit which facilitate proper function or additional functions of the suit.

Armor

The majority of the outer shell is comprised of a hardened polymer with sections of Durandium Alloy in the joints to provide extra strength to the parts under the most strain. The polymer is not strong enough to resist anything more than most handheld munitions, the smart coated surface also adds a slight bonus protection against laser and particle beam weapons. Beneath the outer plating is a layer of toughened mesh over a gel-neoprene compound sleeve

The suit is moderately resistant to small arms fire and ballistic munitions, semi resistant to lasers and beams and is able to deflect them at some angles, cannot defend against aether or other advanced power weapons. Shrapnel and explosions have some affect but are moderately protected against, a direct contact explosion will obliterate the suit.

Camouflage

Using the Sensory Smart Coating on the surface of the suit, environments can be mimicked in a similar fashion to a chameleon and like a chameleon it's not totally invisible if you know where to look. This smart coating works by copying the light emission pattern around it and altering which parts of the colour spectrum are absorbed and reflected by the suit, it also allows for the suit to appear as some other clothing entirely in very rare circumstances but is not advised.

Life Support

There is little available life support systems included in the Photon armour as it is not designed for use outside of standard atmospheres. Its mobility pack contains enough oxygen for up to 48 hours but the suit itself cannot survive in space for more than that time regardless of oxygen supply. There is some climate control which can take the edge off a frozen night or scorching day but extreme temperatures will damage the suit components and it will cease higher functions.

Sensors and Communications

The helmet of the Photo is outfitted with a MOASS, its visor can provide visuals using this sensory suit as well as using the audio components for sonar mapping to assist the wearer. The audio sensors can detect the minute waves produced by a pin hitting the floor in a radius of 20m from the suit itself provided there is no sound proofing or interfering sounds in the vicinity.

Power Source

To power the helmet and the smart coating a single GH Energy Core is slotted into the underside of the mobility pack. A single core can power the suit at full function for up to 1 day constantly, when only powering the HUD and helmet functions it can last up to 3 days non stop.
