Model 44 Standardized Engineering Bay

A standard, scalable engineering bay used by Iron Company Vessels as of YE 44

One of several standardized ship components-the Model 44 Standardized Engineering bay is designed to house whatever powerplant as well as fabrication and repair equipment is needed to keep the ship's systems running. Next to the bridge, it is the beating heart of a starship.

The Model 44 Standardized Engineering Bay is usually a metal box made out of alloys comprised of metals such as steel, tungsten, and equipped with a layer of Monoplate to protect it, with various conduits, power couplings, consoles, etc;. It's shape can be adapted per the vessel's needs and usually houses the Wrath Series Fusion Reactor in common use by the Iron Company but can be adapted to other power sources. Fabrication units, charging stations for the various tools, diagnostic terminals, and other such things needed for the day-to-day running of the vessel in question can also be found here.

In YE 46 the Engineering bay was one of the few standardized components to receive a full overhaul to bring it more in line with the rest of the Colonization Initiative Alliance fleet. No expense was spared as a part of its modernization-this includes the following:

This is the storage area-usually a series of large bins or liquid or gas storage tanks, and filled with raw materials such as iron, copper, lithium, as well as things like coal, and even gasses such as propane or methane. These are used to either power smelting equipment, forge new equipment, and even fabricate new ship components.

The Forging, Chemistry and Smelting Equipment are used to meltdown, refine, and forge the various ores and materials stored aboard the vessel into whatever needed; consisting of a series of furnaces that can either be powered by electricity, but also can use either solid fuel like coal or natural gas, molds, and various implements such as hydraulic hammers, rollers and mills for creating wire and pipe and other such implements to create the base materials for whatever parts are needed. The Chemistry Lab is used to create things like acids, and various compounds needed for things like gunpowder and plastics used in everything from circuit boards to semiconductors

The Manufacturing Stations consist of everything from nano lathes to simple handtools and are used to craft or repair the various parts on a ship or equipment that a yeoman may need; while not perfect, it's a step up from the old method of hoping you had whatever was on hand or could kitbash together as a means of replacing or fixing broken components.
