Anslen is an outgoing man with a will harder than the metal he used to work with. He is keenly intelligent and quick to notice small details. He tends towards caution and doing things right the first time. He has a reputation for making a hard, but fair deals. Politically, he is a moderate with connections to the Temple

Anslen Volontany was born in BYE 17 on Essia System. He took up his father's trade of being a blacksmith and married young. His wife, Tanis Volontany nee Sanssinia and him had many children. His tribe believed in the old tradition that hunting for one's food as a young Separa'Shan made one more empathic as a adult. Unlike some who believed in this practice, he still wanted to have a relationship with his children so he and his wife would often visit their children in the Jungle. As this was before contact with Yamatai, the mortality rate for young Separa'Shan was very high. Although some of his children and he did not have a good relationship, he loves all of his children.

He was fairly well known in the city where he lived, involved in the politics, civics, and trade of the city. He was the lead negotiator on some of the most important trade deals that the city made. After the death of his youngest daughter in space, Anslen fell into a deep depression. It took a while for him to come out of it. However, when he did, he decided to see what his daughter had been so fascinated with.

Anslen left Essia in YE 33. Because he was quite wealthy, he left his blacksmithing business to one of his sons. He forged several trade deals on behalf of various cities and the larger Galaxy. While he personally did not make the first contact with other races, he often followed up with offers of trade deals. Eventually, he returned to Essia to become its Senator to Yamamtai. As Senator, he has been involved in the senate committee on trade.

• Smithing: Anslen was a blacksmith for over thirty years. He is keenly interested in not only smithing but also the latest advances in material sciences.
• Leadership: Anslen is a leader who enjoys leading from the front and ensuring that everyone knows that he never asks anything of those below him that he would not be willing to do himself. He is a careful diplomat and trade negotiator.
• Engineering: Anslen has an eye for design carefully honed over his years of being a blacksmith.
• Accounting: Anslen is a keen accountant and has a knack for knowing where the money is going even when it is disguised.
• Physical: Anslen is massively strong due to his years as a blacksmith and he still works out to maintain his physique.
• Survival: Anslen grew up in the unforgiving jungles of Essia, requiring him to know how to survive in a very tough environment.
• Fighting: Anslen carries his jungle knife wherever he is allowed. He is very adept at using the knife not only as a tool but as a weapon.
