Waylan is a dedicated, capable craftsman first and foremost. He takes deep pride in the things he makes and strives to ensure they'll last for many years to come.

Despite his tough exterior, he is a friendly and easy-going companion to those he works with. He expects excellence from his colleagues but is happy to put in the time to help them get there.

When not working, he enjoys a good drink, simple personal projects, and weight-lifting. Given the chance to be out of uniform, he prefers to wear loose clothing like shirts and shorts typically in a floral or tie-dye pattern.

Waylan's first memories are of waking up in a cold, powered-down lab. He discovered that the cryo-unit he had been sleeping in had lost its power and eventually thawed him out according to its safety protocols. Seemingly alone, it took him a number of days before he was able to get help by using an emergency beacon he assembled from parts scavenged across the facility

While he didn't remember anything from before that, he did discover a few things. His name, “Vulca, Waylan”, was found on a patch. Both of his eyes were replaced at some point. He had an overwhelming compulsion to create. It was obvious to him that he had been modified, if not created entirely, to work on science and engineering projects. What he was created for and for why was a mystery.

Given his unusual background, he decided that the New Dusk Conclave would be the best home for him. He has been operating as part of D.O.A.R.A.D. since its inception. Over time, he has discovered more about his past and his capabilities through the NDC's information networks.

In truth, Waylan is a product of the ODIN initiative, an effort by Altera Corporation to create exceptional scientists by exceptional scientists. When Altera spun down, he was placed on ice along with a number of the other clones who were still within the facility.

Waylan is highly proficient to expert level in many of the hard sciences, especially those related to the creation and construction of new technologies. His main focus has been in the areas of vehicle, ship, and weaponry design since he joined D.O.A.R.A.D.
