The Akuro Nebula is located in the claimed space of the Yamatai Star Empire. It is located to the galactic west of the Yugumo Nebula and is part of the Motoyoshi Colonial Sector region. The Creepy Passage is a naturally occurring passage between the Akuro Nebula and Yugumo Nebula.
This nebula is named after the YSS Akuro II, a flagship of the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet.
The Akuro Nebula was first discovered by the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet during YE 29. At first, it was presumed that it was part of the Yugumo Nebula, but further research concluded that the origin of the nebula was very different from the neighboring phenomenon. Due to the extreme conditions within the nebula, ships in transit are forced to avoid this phenomenon. The Akuro Nebula was not claimed by the United Outer Colonies and has always remained apart of the Yamatai Star Empire.
The YSS Takumi, the prototype of the Takumi-Class Expeditionary Command Cruiser was declared lost when it disappeared in the Akuro Nebula in YE 32. The ship was attempting to respond to a distress signal from a transport ship that had suffered a navigation issue and became trapped in the nebula. The ship disappeared with all hands and has never been located.
The Akuro nebula is a massive cloud of interstellar gases and dust.
The Akuro nebula was formed from the remnants of a Supernova. The highly energized plasma combined with the heavy electromagnetic and electrogravitic (Scalar Field) phenomenon in the nebula creates a region of very unstable space. The Akuro Nebula is considered a navigation hazard and is generally avoided by starships in transit through the region. Continuum Distortion Drive and CFS systems are inoperable inside of this nebula because of the electrogravitic (Scalar Field) phenomenon.
The only way to reach the Akuro Nebula is by starship or other craft.
The nebula has no permanent inhabitants.
