A High Intensity Discharge flashlight, utilizing an electric current passed through a transparent tube of contained ionized xenon gas and metallic salts causing melting. This creates plasma, which provides a high intensity light source. However UV radiation of the resulting light can have some negative effects, so the light passes through a simple UV filter before being transmitted through the lens of the light. Behind the lighting apparatus is a layer of silica areogel 1) to stop the heat generated by the light from melting the titanium boron carbide casing or burning the user. The light comes in both a hand-held or a strap-on version.
Battery Life: 16 hours of continual use. Tube Life: Must be replaced once every two months.
