Potassium Charge

About the Item

This was developed as a way to quickly and easily burn through hinges on doors and put holes in hulls. It became available in YE 30.

Key Features

Uses

Due to the massive amount of heat this object produces, it can be used to burn holes in hinges of doors to quickly remove doors that can’t be unlocked or broken down. It can also be used to bore holes through seals, such as on airlocks. The explosive is inserted into one side of the container, following the insertion of cotton around the separator to prevent early detonation. Then water is inserted into the opposite end. It can be detonated either through a fuse that will remove the separator, or by hard contact with another object. It is most effective in atmosphere, but if contained atmosphere can be set up around it, it can be used in space. Also, due to the nature of the bomb, it can be used as a flare/flashbang type device to blind unwary enemies. It cannot be pinpointed for aim unless thrown, so caution is advised when using a fuse to set it off.

Appearance

It is a small, cylindrical package, about the size of a twenty oz. bottle. The container must be thin out of necessity to allow for the explosive to work, so it is generally thinner than a bottle would be. Both ends are sealed once the materials are inserted, so it can be smoothed out if required. While this is a standard format, any person with the time and materials, as well as the know-how, can construct the same type of device at any time.

History and Background

Kumiko developed this during her spare time on the Moirai, in between ship and system designs. She enjoys coming up with new weapons, so the idea came to her at a point to create an explosive with the capabilities of several of her favorites. Thus, a thermite/flashbang/fragmentary bomb was developed.
