Individual members motivations are, the good of the clan first. This does not mean that all Qaktoro agree as to what is best. Different persons have differing concepts of what is best for the clan. Next is improving their status within their family, and their family's status withing their sect. Inter-family intrigues, rivalries and even blood feuds exist as they are considered healthy for the clan by eliminating the weak. But they are always balanced against the overall good of the clan.
These are how they define individuals other than family members.
The Hidden Sun clan practice selective breeding and protect the purity of their race. They see deformities, or other genetic handicaps as a threat to the clan. Any cub born with abnormalities is killed in a Devotopai (Rituals) to release the spirit back to be born again.
At age 16 all members undergo the Baqnor (move from youth), a rite of passage. This is a test of physical prowess. It is a rigorous process and those who pass are deemed eligible to reproduce.

Life in the Kikyo Sector after the Norka (The Exodus), has taught the Qaktoro as a people to be frugal. Excessive hording at a personal level is heavily frowned upon. Recycling and reusing are a common part of their lifestyle. Items that a person no longer needs are often given to another person in the family, or sold. In some cases they are sold as scrap to be reworked into new things.
Their predator ancestry still shapes the Qaktoro psyche.
Most predators operate between caution and opportunistic. They instinctively evaluate whether the risk in pursuing a target prey is worth the risk. Most predators have limited pursuit capabilities, and getting injured in the hunt can mean death. So risk management is fundamental.
Today a Qaktoro does this same situational evaluation. Prior to engaging in a risky endeavor they will evaluate if the risk to themselves, their family, and the clan for failure out ways the potential benefits.
Predators also typically enter an unfamiliar area with trepidation. They usually find a place to observe before they move in. The Qaktoro still follow this practice in part from instinct and convention. When they enter a gathering they perform what has come to be called Nutarka (the pause). Qaktoro will survey the area, see where the stronger, more powerful members are gathered, and will typically seek out their peers. Lesser members will only intrude on the more powerful by duty, or at their own risk.
