A step up from the Laiz Pistol, the Solanii Laiz Carbine is a full-scale personal defense weapon used by security forces and starship crews across the Astral Commonwealth. The bullpup design and distinctive control systems make it unique among laser weapons, and the firepower it can field is impressive. Refinements in emitter and power transmission technology mean that the Laiz Rifle has a higher rate of fire and is actually more power efficient than the pistol it is based on, but the shooter should be advised that ammunition depletes very quickly in sustained bursts.

Solid State Laser A solid-state laser is a laser that uses a gain medium that is a solid, rather than a liquid such as in dye lasers or a gas as in gas lasers. In this case, the beam is pumped via a laser diode and uses a high precision Neodymium-doped transparent ceramic lens for excellent accuracy and high power efficiency. The result is a beam capable of inflicting surprising damage to most targets, though it lacks the penetrative qualities of some other EM weapons.
