Safety: Located on both sides of the weapon just above the trigger, the Safety mechanism is a thumb dial that is easy to use for both right and left-handed individuals.
Weapon Sight: The SAR is the only weapon in the Light Infantryman's arsenal that relies totally upon the AAF Light Infantry Armor's wiring and a camera for accurate targeting. For individuals with no Light Infantry Armor, it is pretty much point and unleash everything.
Exchangeable Barrel: Unlike many other infantry weapons of the Abwehran Armed Forces (AAF), the MDS-01's barrel is prone to wearing down faster due to its incredible rate of fire. Because of this, the MDS-01's barrel can easily be exchanged for another after 2000 - 3000 rounds fired.
As the build up and reformation of the Abwehran Armed Forces (AAF) continued, an issue with Light Infantry firepower came up. While Kaiserlich Waffenerbauer had provided the Empire's soldiers with heavier firepower with their 20mm Under-slung Flechette Launcher and 30mm Under-slung Grenade Launcher. However, there was still nothing to provide adequete fire suppression.
That changed with the development of the MDS-01 Squad Automatic Rifle during the Second Quarter of AF 260, or YE 32 for non-Abwehrans. Utilizing the widely used 13mm x 39mm rifle round in a three hundred-round box magazine, the SAR was the perfect fire suppression weapon for the Abwehran's military needs.
