FIC-01 Flechette Cannon

Designed and produced in the Fourth Quarter of AF 260 YE 34 along side the Jäger Heavy Infantry Armor, the Flechette Cannon is a powered armor-equipped weapon used in boarding actions against lightly armored enemies. Its main role is to kill enemies quickly without damaging vital equipment.

With the role of the Jäger Heavy Infantry Armor including boarding operations, a 'hall-clearing' weapon was needed for such close quarters. The success of the 20mm Under-slung Flechette Launcher gave the flechette weapon credence in such situations and made a good basis for a close quarters weapon. Thus an Armor-portable Cannon version was designed to be rolled out at the same time as the Jaeger.

A bulky-weapon with a short barrel, the FIC-01 is a belt-fed weapon that uses a box magazine attached to the right-hand side. The main handle and trigger is located a few centimeters behind the magazine with a steadying grip on top of the weapon, making the FIC-01 a 'fire-from-the-hip' design. However, specialized targeting cameras built just above the barrel, give Powered Armor Operators much greater accuracy for the firing position. When used by Light Infantry, the FIC-01 Flechette Cannon acts as a crew-served weapon an is placed upon a stand.

The FIC-01 is a weapon that can be fired in a semi-automatic or automatic setting. This and the safety mechanism are controlled from a dial located on each side of the steadying handle. The FIC-01 uses the Standard Abwehran Trigger System.

The FIC-01 fires 20mm x 40mm shells that contain nearly 80 small, jagged sabot darts. Each shell can be set to a certain distance where it explodes to launch the darts out in a cone.
