An Oberleutnant is normally placed in charge of a Company's 1st Platoon/Squad or a Wing's Second Squadron. He is also considered to be the Executive Officer for either unit type. In a Specialized Regiment, an Oberleutnant is normally placed as a Aid to a Hauptmann. In a larger units Headquarters, an Oberleutnant with some specialty can be placed in a Field Officer's Staff.
On Naval and Aerial Warships, an Oberleutenant is often placed in command of a specific Department.
