Compact Electronic Countermeasure Suite

The Origin Industries Compact Electronic Counter Measure (ECM) suite is an Electronic Warfare and Sensor system, designed in YE 31 for the next generation of Origin small craft up to Frames.

Composition

CECS units consist of several smaller units that specialize in dealing with electromagnetic frequencies (radio/radar), tachyon, neutrinos and scalar emissions respectively. The units themselves contain both emitters and sensors for their specialized wavelength or energy type.

Function

The electromagnetic countermeasure sub-suite is designed to create white noise over sensors and communication channels channels to jam enemy systems. Though it reveals the presence of the user, it does not reveal the exact location, rather the rough direction of the source. Its emitters may focus in order to overload, temporarily blind or force a short shutdown on other radar systems as well. This type of attack on sensors, however, is not covert and can be more easily traced to the source, though, failing to disable the target system, it will be instead blinded with white noise or static. As a combat support system, the electromagnetic spectrum sub-suite can illuminate targets for radar guided weapons, track as many separate contacts as the craft's computer allows, and serve as a backup radio communications system. The ECM Suite also contains a multi-channel interception device to read enemy radio transmissions. The average quantum computer on Origin Industries craft is sufficient to break lightly encrypted transmissions in short order.
