Name: 'Duster' Machine Pistol Type: Solid Ammunition Electromagnetic Rail Machine Pistol Model: UMC-S-MP-0011) Role: Anti-Personnel, Personal Defense Weapon, Area Suppression Length: 38.1 cm / 15 in. Mass: 1.58 kg / 3.5 lbs. Loaded Weight: Weapon With 900 Rounds; 3.40 kg / 7.5 lbs Standard Ammunition Weight: 2g
Projection/ammo type: Solid Ammunition
Firing Mechanism: When a QNC is fixed to the weapon, a small bank of capacitors are charged in preparation for the weapon to be fired. When the trigger of the weapon is pulled, power is routed from the QNC and capacitors to power the weapon's firing mechanism. A round is fed from the detachable magazine by use of a mechanical feed, the round is then inserted between a pair of magnetic rails. This initial pair of rails are designed to give the initial 'push' to the projectile, and rapidly oscillate between an active and inactive state. When the initial rails are active, the projectile is forced between the second set of rails which also serve as the barrel of the weapon. This second set of rails accelerate the round down barrel and are designed to add a spin to the round as it leaves the barrel to increase accuracy and stability of the projectile.
Caliber: The initial rails of the weapon can be adjusted to accommodate Lorath Solid Munitions in sizes from 'Needle' grade ammunition to 10mm. However, the standard configuration accepts 5mm slugs.
Ranges listed are applicable in 1g of gravity |
Effective Range 100 Meters Maximum Effective Range: 200 Meters
Muzzle Velocity: 800 m/s / 2,624 ft/s
Muzzle Blast: Due to the speed of the discharged projectile, a visible distortion is created at the muzzle of the weapon which is consistent with that of the wake created by super-sonic velocities.
Firing Mode(s): Safe, Semi, Auto
Recoil: In semi-automatic, the recoil of the weapon is manageable, however, in automatic the recoil produces a rather difficult to manage kick and climb, which requires that most shooters stabilize the weapon's front end by holding the magazine of the weapon, or adding an optional wire stock to provide additional stability.
Rate of Fire: 1,250 Rounds Per Minute
Damage Rating: Using default 5mm slugs; Tier 2, Medium Anti-Personnel
Name: 5mm Nerimium Hollow Interior Slugs, Helical Feed Magazine Visual Description: Each round is a cone-shaped bullet with a fine mono-molecular tip, with a glossy finish. The magazine is a canister-shaped container which contains a 'spiraling' interior. The side of the magazine includes a transparent section which allows for a user to view the remaining ammunition within the magazine. Ammo: 900 Slugs Damage Description: Puncture damage, very narrow wounds in organic targets
Name: Disposable QNC Visual Description: A triangular shaped device, capable of being inserted into a side-port of the weapon. Charge: 25,000 Discharges
Safety: Yes, integrated into the fire mode selector
Fire mode selector: A selective fire switch which is located above the trigger of the weapon on both the left and right sides of the weapon. Requires the user to exert some downward force to allow for the switching of modes from safe to a firing mode.
Weapon Sight: None
Attachment Hard points: Rear attachment point for wire stock
Interchangeable Forward Barrel Assembly: The forward portion of the barrel assembly of the weapon can be rapidly swapped out to replace worn rails, or to attach a larger or smaller sized rail system to increase or decrease the caliber of the weapon. Upon attachment of the new barrel assembly, the initial rails within the 'Duster' adjust themselves to align with the new width between the fixed rails of the barrel.
Field Maintenance Procedure: Clean, lubricate, swap QNC units when needed, and replace barrel assembly in event of failure. All components can be swapped out without use of tools or special equipment.

Optional Components:
Due to the increasing number of pirate attacks on ships in United Outer Colonies space in the year YE 30 – 31, the United Manufacturing Cooperative decided to produce a unique weapon tailored to the rigors of in-ship combat, and the rapid neutralization of optimal numbers of unarmored or lightly armored targets. The development of the weapon led in the direction of an easy to operate machine pistol which used magnetic acceleration to optimize damage while minimizing the profile of the weapon.
The UMC gave the 'Duster' a rail configuration which would allow for nearly any sort of smooth-exterior metallic projectile to be fed into the weapon. This rugged and friendly design was intended to allow for freighter captains to select their crew's ammunition by their own discretion. However, the UMC did decide to make a standardized caliber for the weapon as well. The selection of the 5mm slug was a somewhat unconventional approach due to the small size of the projectile, however, this small size also is an advantage. Due to the small nature of the ammunition, the weapon can be loaded with a sizable number of slugs which would provide a user with the ability to continue combat for a very long duration with minimal need to reload.
