9×42 Quiet is a caseless ammunition developed by Rokheus & Surma Equipment and Logistics Support for their Rokheus & Surma R36 Special Purpose Carbine, intended to defeat body armor and cause greater terminal effects on soft tissue when fired from a suppressed rifle.
Using 300 grain armor piercing 9mm projectiles with a Nerimium ballistic tip, heavy projectiles have large enough sectional density to pierce common body armor despite flying at subsonic speeds. Air pocket within the armor piercing cap causes the projectile to yaw or “tumble” within soft tissue, creating a larger wound channel.
Caliber: 9×42 Quiet
Projectile Weight: 300 grain (19.5 grams) Nerimium Tipped AP Rounds
Effective Range 150 yards
Maximum Range: 300 yards, depending upon skill of shooter
Muzzle Velocity: 900 ft/s (280 m/s)
Muzzle Energy: 500 ft/lbs (678 J)
Muzzle Blast: Very subdued report, no flash.
Recoil: Light. Shorter carbine rounds loaded to subsonic velocities greatly reduce recoil.
Visual Description: Cylindrical-shaped solid red powder with projectile set inside of it.
Damage Description: (Tier 2, Medium Anti-Personnel) Rifle sized round with air pockets in the armor piercing tip contribute to its tendency to yaw or “tumble” in soft flesh.
