4cm Mauler Autocannon

The Mauler 4cm Autocannon is the standard 'Little Gun' of the Iron Company's cannons/autocannons.

The Mauler 4cm autocannon was one of several weapons designed to provide heavier firepower for light vehicles and PA; primarily meant to serve as a replacement for the Star Army 35mm Machine Gun-while extremely useful, and doubly so as anti-power armor support weapon. While it was extremely popular with Company troops, the weapon was considered highly limited and lacked the flexibility of the Sunderer 7.6cm cannon. With the majority of them coming from salvage or captured stockpiles from NMX, the most notable being the ones mounted on Steiner's Warden, the Smiths of the Company set out to design their very own homegrown model.

Working from the Type 30, and after some trial and error-mostly with them strengthening and enlarging the frame, modifying the receiver, and rechambering the weapon. The resulting weapon developed a fearsome reputation among Mishu and Company troops alike, and gained several nicknames such as “Rolling Thunder”, “Deathsong”, and the one that stuck; 'Mauler.' With a rate of fire that rivaled some single-barreled light machine guns and required the use of a limiter to prevent the weapon from either melting or outright exploding from overheating-it was just the right tool to remind the bastards down range that even in the day and age of modern power armor suppressing fire was very much a thing and they should probably keep their heads down, and multiple types of ammunition lent further credence to this principle.

The Mauler 40mm strongly resembles the Star Army Type 30-A long, heavy duty barrel-though it does have a vented shroud, a blocky, boxy body with two handles at the end with a butterfly trigger-though this particular feature may change depending on what the weapon is mounted on. For Example; Power Armor Models will have a stock and conventional rifle trigger and stock in place of this mechanism.

• Muzzle Flash: A large, dull yellow muzzle flash, though it may resemble a solid flame when used in hyperfire mode.
• Retort: The gun has a deep, throaty roar as it steadily chugs along in standard firing mode, with hyperfire engaged, the weapon sounds like a hellish mixture of thunder and tearing linoleum mixed into a single, continuous retort.
• Projectile/Beam Appearance: Unless tracer rounds are used, at best a glimpse of the projectile would be seen.

• Recoil: The barrel tends to travel upwards and to the left.

• Round Capacity: The weapon normally uses a 250-round ammo belt usually located in either a backpack or cylindrical magazine, but capacity can vary depending on platform.

• Firing Mechanism: The mauler uses a Short Recoil Action, using the action of the bolt to cycle another round.
• Loading: The bolt must be locked into place-this is done by racking the charging bolt on the hand-held models, while the electronic models require a special attachment, open the lid on the feed tray, place the munitions belt into the feed tray after ensuring its clear of debris, the close tray, rack bolt-you're good to go.
