While a starship is indeed a mighty and very capable means of transit through space, it is not the end-all-be-all. Unless the vessel has the capacity, let alone a commander willing to risk such an asset during such an operation, especially during combat operations then one must have the means to transport troops to the ground. Thus in YE 44 the Company created the Model 44 Standardized Shuttle Bay to launch such transports, though later on it would gain the ability to service and launch combat craft as well as power armor units.
Like all Standardized components aboard company vessels, the Model 44 Standardized shuttle bay is a scalable shuttle bay that is little more than an armored box with the means to accommodate whatever craft that the vessel in question is carrying. The shuttlebay has various gantries, cranes, etc; to carry out re-arming, maintenance, and whatever else is required to ensure the smooth running of the carried vessels.
