-Royals is a well-known rock/pop band from planet:yamatai that have since gained international acclaim. They are known for their lyrics, which often speak of lost love, pacifism, and social dilemmas like refugees, drugs use, and crime. The band is known by their Trade names.

-===== History =====
-==== Formation and early years ====
-Martin Stewart and Berry Auckland first met in college in timeline:ye_16, where they bonded over their mutual interest in rock music. The two spent the year planning a band and performing around school, using the name 'Yellyfish'. George Perlman, a classmate and fellow musician, later joined the two to play bass. When Phil Dembley joined the band for percussion duties, the lineup was complete. Dembley was first offered to play rhythm guitar, as he was trained, but re-schooled to drums to keep the band as a quartet. The band settled on the name 'Royals', when it was suggested by Tim Lander, who became the band's manager. Lander has since been the band's unofficial fifth member.
-
-The first official release of the band came in timeline:ye_17, when they released 1000 copies of //Exclaim EP//. Most disks were presented to record companies or given to family and friends. Only 200 copies remained for public sales. In November of that year, Royals signed a label contract to independent label Waterhouse. Their first release was the four-track //In your Homes and Hearts EP//, which was recorded in six days in January timeline:ye_18. The EP was successful in exposing the group to a wider audience, however they were seen as too Alternative for most listeners.
-
-A year later, after completing their contract with Waterhouse, they signed a five-album contract with Limestone Records. They made their first appearance in Geshrinopolis, and then returned to the studio to record a third EP, titled //A Blue Sky//. Five thousands copies were made available to the public in April YE 19, and the lead single //See You Again// received air time on SRC 4 and YERC 3. This allowed them the finances to record a full album. However, the recordings of //A Blue Sky// were tumultous. Perlman was injured in a car accident and recording was postponed two weeks. They also determined to fire anyone who used drugs or drank excessively.

-==== YE 19 - 21: Atmosphere ====
-After the succesful launch of //A Blue Sky// and a series of gigs around Geshrinopolis, Royals decided to record a full size album. The album was recorded in Matrix Studios in location:central_uesureya, where they accessed three studio rooms. The mixing on all songs was done by species:human engineer Oya Takura in Geshrinopolis. During that time, Royals played in the Outcome Tour, which showcased newcomer acts, and gained a steady fan-base there.
-
-Although the previous EPs had been succesfull, no hit had been produced. Royals made their first hit with the lead single of Atmosphere, 'Dreams', which made it to number 12 in the Yamatai Singles Chart. This was crucial to Royals' early succes. It allowed them to make their first headlining tour, with the Ketsurui Music Festival. They also released their breakthrough single 'Spotless', which became Royals' first release to reach top five, rising to number four in the Yamatai Singles Chart. Both were released as EPs before the release of the main album.
-
-Royals released their first studio album, //Atmosphere//, on 15 June timeline:ye_20 via their record label Limestone Records. The album debuted at number two of the Yamatai Album Charts. It was released internationally by Limestone in July. The third single 'Clean Slate', reached number 10 in the charts. Atmosphere was nominated for three wip:faction:yamatai:soul_awards in timeline:ye_20, both for 'Best Rock Album', 'Best Rock Performance', and 'Best Instrumental Arrangement', and won all three. The tour continued to play on the //Atmosphere Tour// until October timeline:ye_21, when they returned to the studio for a second album.

-==== YE 22 - 24: Give All Your Love to Me  ====
-Royals returned to the studio in November timeline:ye_21 to begin work on a second album. They derived from the previous' albums sound, focusing more on delivering messages through lyrics rather than music, and moved more towards art rock than alternative. This move made it hard for Royals' to focus upon new work. They relocated from Geshrinopolis to location:central_uesureya, where //Atmosphere// was recorded. Vocalist Stewart then said that recording was a priority for them. 'Sing to Me' was the first song to be recorded, and that allowed for Royals' to record other songs. 'Sing to Me' was released as the album's lead single ahead of the rest.
-
-More than twenty songs were written and recorded for the album. Alongside 'Sing to Me', which reached number 2 on Yamatai single Charts, the singles 'Spiderwebs', 'Don't Rush It', and 'Clashes' all reached the top five on the single Charts. Royals' also recorded multiple music videos for the album, most notably for the ballad 'Spiderwebs', which featured a reverse narrative. Only twelve of the songs ended up on the main LP, while the others were released by two EPs, 'Underground EP' and 'Slow Walk EP'. After the success of the album, which reached number 1 on the Yamatai album charts, Royals' went on to perform in the //All your Love Tour// from YE 22 to 23. After that, they did the //Slow Walk Tour//, a small series of concerts around planet:yamatai, for the release of the namesake EP.
-
-//Give All Your Love to Me// was critically acclaimed by most contemporary critics. The album and the band were nominated for a total of Six wip:faction:yamatai:soul_awards. They won four of them, including 'Song of the Year' for 'Clashes', 'Best Rock Album', 'Best Rock Performance', and 'Best Instrumental Arrangement'. They were also nominated for 'Best Rock Song' for 'Sing to Me',  and 'Best Non-Classical Engineered Album'. These accomplishments propelled Royals' into galactic fame. They toured throughout Yamatai space, and performing also on planet:nepleslia. In timeline:ye_23, YAMI named Royals' as 'Best Band of the Moment'. Also, as a sign of goodwill, Royals' donated a large part of the album's and tour's profits to charities, which was rewarded with a special quotation by YAMI. This gesture became a habit of Royals, who also decided to give their earnings to charities in the future.

-==== YE 25 - 28: I2I ====
-After the finish of the //Slow Walk Tour// in May timeline:ye_24, Royals' spent some time out of the spotlights, taking a break from touring in favour of recording their third album. With the destruction of Geshrinopolis, Royals' felt it should commemorate the tragedy. They released 'Lights Guide You' as a single ahead of the album. The album was released in timeline:ye_25, to wide global anticipation. Its lead single, 'Ahead of Me', was the first single for Royals to reach number 1 on the Yamatai single charts. Other singles, such as ' First Page', 'Lights Guide You', 'Do You' and 'The Strangest Thing', al reached top five in the single Chart. The album itself reached number 1 in the Yamatai Album Charts.
-
-The album was felt to be different from the previous work of Royals, utilising electronic sounds, synthesiser and distorted riffs. This made the band divert towards more art- or temporary rock. The title itself, I2I, was made as an acronym to 'Eye to Eye'. This worked well, according to many critics, but the album 'Didn't reinvent Royals, but ensured their place as best band of our time', according to renowned critic Abu Kenira. The album was followed by two EPs, 'Light Guide You' and 'The Strangest Thing'. After the launch of the album, the band embarked on the //Returned Faith Tour//, where they toured for more than two years across the location:kikyo_sector. They recorded a live album in timeline:ye_27, from three separate shows in newly built location:kyoto. They also had the privilege to open the new location:imperial_theatre.
-
-The album was nominated for five wip:faction:yamatai:soul_awards, and won three, in the form of 'Best Rock Performance' and 'Best Rock Album', and 'Best Rock Song' for 'Ahead of Me'. They were also nominated for 'Best Vocal Arrangement' and 'Best Recording Package', both first for Royals.

-==== YE 28 - 31: Library of Liberty ====
-In timeline:ye_28, during the //Returned Faith Tour//, Royals had been preparing for a fourth album. The band expressed ideas of incorporating wp>world music sounds into the music. To that end, their next album //Library of Liberty//, was felt as a new direction for Royals, from their previous albums, which became known as a ' music trilogy'. The album incorporated a larger vocal performance, as well as blues and pop influences.
-
-'Velvet Snow' was released as a single before the album, and showed the new style of Royals by employing distorted riffs and blues sounds. It had the highest single sales of Royals for that time. The title track 'Library of Liberty' was released as the lead single of the album, and was the second single to reach number 1 on the Yamatai single Chart. It was also regarded by the new faction:democratic_imperium_of_nepleslia as an important revolutionary piece. The album was released in timeline:ye_28 to critical acclaim, topping multiple album charts across location:kikyo_sector and becoming the best-selling album of timeline:ye_28 and timeline:ye_29. Multiple singles, including 'Revolution', 'Temple of Light', 'Cherry Blossom', and 'Hurt', all reached top five on multiple single charts. They released 'Fields of Green EP' in late timeline:ye_28, of which lead single 'Living Colours' also reached top five on single charts. The album was re-released with the EP in timeline:ye_29. This success led to the massive //Liberty Tour//, which saw gigs and performances in Yamatai space, as well as Nepleslia and Elysia.
-
-The album and band received five wip:faction:yamatai:soul_awards in timeline:ye_29, for 'Album of the Year', 'Song of the Year' for 'Library of Liberty', 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance', 'Best Vocal Arrangement', and 'Best Recording Package'. They were also chosen by YAMI as 'Most charitable band', since most proceeds of their albums and shows were given to refugee and environment charities. Most notably, Vocalist Stewart donated more than 5 million faction:yamatai:ks to Wildlife Preservation Organisation. They also performed in various slums, against low prices. The song 'Temple of Light' was specifically written for the destruction of Geshrinopolis, and its proceeds were granted to reconstruction efforts. In timeline:ye_29, YAMI again named them 'Best Band of the Moment', and Martin 'Best Singer of the Moment.

-==== YE 31 - 34: Cloud Nine ====
-After the success of //Library of Liberty//, Royals took a break for almost a year. Royals returned to recording a new album only in timeline:ye_32. The war-infused previous album was done away by the more light tones. Royals released a special timeline:events:year-end_traditions, 'Goodwill EP' in timeline:ye_30. With the fallout of the ensuing timeline:events:second_mishhuvurthyar_war, the need for a lighter album was felt by Royals. The album carried over the sound of //Libary of Liberty//, but also incorporated electronic sounds, and R&B influences. It also used new short instrumentals used as intermezzo between songs, and work was done to link the songs by in- and outro's. Work was also done to create a background for the album.
-
-A story was devised by screenwriter Luke Mirage, revolving around an dystopian world 'Cloud Nine', where two children seek to bring back colour and music to their home. A special comic was made to accompany the album, and two music videos showed the story. The album was released in timeline:ye_32, to positive reviews. The album was perceived as lesser than its predecessors, however the use of multimedia was proven positive. 'Utopia', 'Feeling Alive', 'Water from Heaven' and 'King of Dreams', all reached top five in various single charts, and 'Utopia' became the third song to reach number 1 on the Yamatai single Charts. the //Cloud Nine Tour// was given across the location:kikyo_sector, however, the continued warfare of the Mishhu War forced the band to remain inside Yamatai space for most of the tour. Again, the proceeds of the album and shows were given to refugee charities.
-
-The album and band won four wip:faction:yamatai:soul_awards in timeline:ye_32, for 'Song of the Year' for 'Utopia', 'Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance', 'Best Non-Classical Engineered Album', and 'Best Instrumental Arrangement'. The efforts of their charity work again gained them special quotation by YAMI.
-
-In timeline:ye_32, they released 'Forgotten Worlds', which featured in //Agent Henry: Last Men of the Emperor//, and which earned them a Golden Lotus for 'Best Original Song'.

-====  YE 35 - 36: Dream Lost  ====
-The next album of Royals', according to Vocalist Stewart, would revolve around two main themes: the consequence of past actions, and lost love. The upbeat tones of //Cloud Nine// were exchanged for a more loaded sound, utilizing heavier bass lines and lighter guitar. Also, electronic sounds would incorporate vocoder and synthesiser. 'Firefly' was the first single to be released, and showed the sound of the album, utilising a 'stripped-down' sound, working mostly with Perlman's bass and minimalist drums from Wembley. This was also the first song to be devised entirely by Perlman alone. Also, the contract with Limestone was completed after //Cloud Nine// and Royals was contracted with label Exclusive.
-
-The album was released in timeline:ye_35, under somewhat mixed reception. Critics believed the album to be too different from earlier work, and that the melancholic sounds of //Dream Lost// were in stark contrast to //Cloud Nine//'s upbeat tones. The difference was also with 'Stars in your Eyes', which seemed to be an entirely dance-oriented song. 'Firefly' reached number 3 on Yamatai single Chart, while 'Stars in your Eyes' became the fourth song to reach number 1 on Yamatai single Chart. The album reached number on various album charts. Other singles, such as 'Love & Prosper', 'Late Sky' and 'Stuck in a Dream', all reached top five in Yamatai single chart. Also, scientists commemorated Royals with a special citation, as 'Late Sky' was shown to aid in the reducing of insomnia.
-
-It was nominated for two wip:faction:yamatai:soul_awards, for 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance' and 'Best Vocal Arrangement'. After the release, Royals embarked on the six-date //Dreams Tour//, playing 'intimate' shows on six locations. A special single, //In the Middle//, featuring real footage of timeline:events:the_great_plague_of_ye_08, was released to commemorate the tragedy in timeline:ye_36.

-==== YE 36 - YE 39: Knowledge of Loving Life  ====
-Shortly after the small //Dream Lost Tour//, it was revealed that Royals was working on a seventh album. The album would be different from //Dream Lost//, in that it would return to the upbeat tones of //Cloud Nine// and //Library of Liberty//, but still use the previous album's sound. In timeline:ye_36, the band revealed it had recorded the 'Special Someone' for the independent film //Dancing Life//, for which they received a Lion Pride Award.
-
-'Dancing on the Clouds' was the first single to be released, and was significant in its music video for utilising wp>motion capture. The song showed that the album would be less of a temporary piece, and more of a 'dancing tour', as described by vocalist Stewart. The title track, 'Knowledge of Loving Life', was released in front of the album, and the album was released in timeline:ye_36, to positive critical reception. The album was perceived as being better than the last one, and the band was able to retain several well-known hits for the mainstream. Several singles, including 'Dancing on the Clouds', 'Knowledge of Loving Life', 'Song for the Days', 'Get it Together' and 'Shining' all reached top five on various single charts, and the album reached number one on both the Yamatai and Nepleslia album chart. The //Loving Life Tour// would return Royals to the headlining performances of their previous works before //Dream Lost//, and they performed around location:kikyo_sector. They recorded a live album at the location:imperial_theatre in location:kyoto.
-
-The album and band received four wip:faction:yamatai:soul_awards, including 'Best Song of the Year' for 'Dancing on the Clouds', 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance', 'Best Instrumental Arrangement', and 'Best Music Video' for 'Dancing on the Clouds'. In timeline:ye_38, they released 'Giving Love to You', which was featured in //Letters of Love: New Generation//, and for which they received a Golden Lotus Award.
-
-In timeline:ye_38, they also released 'World of Colour', a collaboration with dance group Motion Workers, for which they received a shared Soul Award for 'Best Dance Recording'. In timeline:ye_38, they revealed they were working on an EP, which was named 'Colour Spectrum', and which was released on 18 August. In anticipation of the EP, They released two songs from the EP, //Overwhelmed// on 5 June, and //Books of Wisdom// on 6 August. The //Loving Life Tour// was concluded on 5 March timeline:ye_39. Royals announced to take a longer break from touring and recording, not returning until at least timeline:ye_40.
-
-After taking a break from recording and performing, in September timeline:ye_39, Royals took up work to create the film music for the indie film , as well as co-write the screenplay. This led to their second Lion Pride Award nomination and win, for the song 'Last Message'. They released the album of the film, with the five original songs and music from renowned composer Giovanni Michaelo, exactly at the time of the film's release. The five songs received critical acclaim, as they sounded more like Royals' Library of Liberty and I2I albums, loosing the electric sounds in favour of piano and guitar. 'Last Message' was described as a blend of 'Lights Guide You' and 'Cherry Blossom'.

-==== YE 40 - Present: 20 Years of Royals ====
-In march timeline:ye_40, Royals revealed they planned to do a 5 day anniversary tour in june timeline:ye_40. Corresponding with that, Royals released the album 20 Years of Royals - From Atmosphere to Loving Live. According to vocalist Martin Stewart, "It is the ultimate collection of all the best work from all our albums."
-
-It featured most of their top 10 singles and biggest hit, including 'Spotless', 'Clean Slate' and 'Dreams' from Atmosphere; 'Spiderwebs', 'Sing to Me', 'Clashes' and 'Don't Rush it' from GAYLTM; 'Ahead of Me', 'Lights Guide You', 'The Strangest Thing', 'Do You', and 'First Page' from I2I; 'Library of Liberty', 'Cherry Blossom', 'Velvet Snow', 'Temple of Light, and 'Hurt' from LoL; 'Utopia', 'Feeling Alive', 'Water from Heaven', 'King of Dreams' from Cloud Nine; 'Firefly', 'Stars in Your Eyes', 'Love & Prosper', 'Late Sky', and 'Stuck in A Dream' from Dream Lost; and 'Knowledge of Loving Live', 'Dancing on The Clouds', 'Song for The Days', 'Get it Together' and 'Shining' from KoLL. The songs are parted on two disks, with Atmosphere trough LoL on the first, and Cloud Nine trough KoLL on the second disk. An intro by producer Tim Lander on disk 1, and one by re-mixer Edgar Waller on disk 2, were added to give some deep commentary on their experiences with the band. All the songs were digitally remastered by Waller, and the band recorded the special single 'Days into Years' especially for this album, featuring on the end of disk 2.
-
-A week later, they released the three-disk EP 'Best of B-Sides', which included 'Exclaim', 'Underground','Slow Walk', 'In Your Homes and Hearts', 'A Blue Sky', 'Fields of Green', 'In the Middle', and 'Colour Spectrum', as well as six songs featured on their main albums, that did not make it into the top ten, but were in the top 100. Also included were the award-winning singles, 'Goodwill', 'World of Colour', 'Giving all my Love to You', 'Forgotten Worlds', 'Special Someone', and 'Last Message'. The band recorded the single 'Backdoors' especially for this EP featuring on end of disk 3.
-
-All the proceeds of both albums were granted to two large charities in Yamatai, namely the //Children & Refugee Protection Agency//, and //Environmental Watch//. They received another annotation from YAMI for this, along with a special pin from the faction:yamatai:ketsurui_clan, naming them 'Notable wp>Philanthropists of Yamatai'
-
-The album received an Soul Award for best Remixed Album, and nominations for both //Best Limited Package// and //Best Album Notes//. -===== Musical Styles =====
-In the early work of Royals, the group was best described as 'soft rock', in comparison to 'hard rock'. It was known for its 'spiritual lyrics' and for 'invoking thought into listeners'. Its first hits, 'Dreams' and 'Spotless', were notable for using 'swishing percussion' and use of 'bass, guitar, and piano for rhythm', while 'Clean Slate' had a heavier rock sound. The tone of the first album, however, was seen as 'quite dark and heavy', especially lyrically-wise. The album was an example of true Alternative rock, that was not meant for mainstream masses, and in fact, only 'Spotless', and somewhat lesser 'Clean Slate', received wide acclaim.
-
-The second album, //Give All Your Love to Me//, extended upon the sound of the first album, but also used more piano and was generally described as being 'lighter' and 'more confident', with more personal lyrics from Stewart. 'Spiderwebs' was noted for its ballad sound, while 'Clashes' received acclaim for its repeating piano rhythm. The music on the third album, //I2I//, was seen as the collective 'problems, doubts, hopes, and fears of the band', especially in the lead single 'Ahead of Me', and lyrics were exchanged more freely, with Auckland and Wembley making notable additions. It also saw the first use of electronic sounds for Royals, such as the organ sound on 'Lights Guide You'. It is also the album in which Stewart used his wp>falsetto vocals the most, and where the band sang as a whole on several numbers, including the finale of 'The Strangest Thing'.
-
-In //Library of Liberty//, the band moved towards art rock, and the band utilised orchestral instruments and further experimented with unfamiliar instruments. The title track was especially known for its use of wp>string instruments. The songs were also more vocally induced, relying less on the instrumental composition of the band members, however Auckland utilised distorted riffs on several of them. 'Velvet Snow' is known for its wp>wall of sound. //Cloud Nine// carried over the sound of the previous album, but also fully used electronic and acoustic sounds, and featuring upbeat tones, especially in 'Water from Heaven' and 'King of Dreams'. This moved the band further unto pop rock, in contrast to the band's previous work.
-
-//Dream Lost// used a minimalistic sound unheard before from Royals, and also being a generally more pop album. Vocoder and synthesiser were extensively used throughout the album, and also it featured a large backing voice ensemble, most notable in 'Firefly' and 'Starry Sky'. The lyrics were also more melancholic and using Stewart's lower voice, as well as notable vocals from Auckland. //Knowledge of Loving Life// returned somewhat to the upbeat tones of //Cloud Nine//, but also featured extensive use of synthesiser and vocoder instruments. The album was also notable for being more dance-orientated, with upbeat tones and melodies easily recognisable for large crowds, like 'Song for the Days' and 'Dancing on the Clouds'. The EP //Colour Spectrum// builds upon the last album, along with the new inclusion of one 'rap' solo. The Soundtrack for harkens back to the sound before Cloud Nine and more closely resembling I2I and Library of Liberty, using orchestral and guitar and foregoing electric sounds mostly, except for synthesiser.
-
-===== Activism and commercial endorsements =====
-Despite their well-known popularity, the band is protective of their music and for its use in the media, and have refused multiple times for using it for product endorsements. In one such instance, they are notable for refusing several contracts with corp:origin, who wanted to use 'Stars in Your Eyes' and 'Dancing in the Clouds'. They have, however, featured once in an advertisement for corp:emrys, which used 'Spotless'.
-
-Royals is a known supporter of a multitude of charities, most notably for refugees, environment, and fair trade. In the early days of the band, Royals became known for donating 10 percent of the band's profit to charity, and they continue to do so. Also, most gifts intended for them are instead given to charity. They have performed on a variety of benefit concerts in order to raise money for charity. Most notably, in timeline:ye_37, they sold a number of their own equipment, including their first guitars, in order to support //International Children Aid//, an organisation meant for humanitarian aid to children in conflict zones. They are also staunch backers of the faction:yamatai:senate, and one of the few who have visited system:ohara freely, with cooperation from the species:phods. They performed in front of the faction:yamatai:imperial_palace for the recording of the video clip of 'Utopia'.

-===== Sales =====
-Royals has maintained as steady stream of fans over the years, however album sales vary wildly per album. The older work is still being bought in retailers, and the new work is still selling online. Yamatai, being the band's own nation, is still in the majority of the sells, but other countries are gaining sell numbers as well. The band has sold over 300 million records across the galaxy, 200 million in Yamatai alone, and have gone platinum with six of their seven albums, as well as with their compilation album, and diamond with one.
-In fact, none of their albums has even reached below gold status.
