Yamataian Scissor-Tail Flycatcher

The Scissor-Tail Flycatcher or more commonly Flycatcher is a native bird to Yamatai (Planet). Their popularity however has led them to be transplanted to most Yamatai Star Empire worlds. Part of the popularity of the species is their song. Its song is complex, fluid, trilling and energetic. The flycatcher colors plumage is an assortment of blue shades that catch the light. The only difference in plumage between the male and female is color of the underbelly and head cap. They are often a staple at large gardens and parks.

The Scissor-Tail Flycatcher is active during the daylight hours, although their diurnal cycle can be disrupted by the presence of large amounts of artificial lighting.

Diet

Their diet is largely as their name implies, insects. The Flycatcher is common seen perching out in the open waiting for passing insects, and then flies out to catch and eat them. The Flycatcher also eats seeds.

Reproduction

Mating takes place in mid spring which results in two to three eggs. Incubation takes four weeks, and the young begin flying between four to five weeks later.
