Ionolifter

Developed as a means to be less dependent on fossil fuel burning jet engines in the early days of the Sahaad Confederacy, the Ionolifter is a propulsion device based on ionic fluid propulsion which works without moving parts, using only electrical energy. Early forms proved to be inefficient before the introduction of Veyrinite laced materials. Modern lifters have changed only slightly with the introduction of more evenly spaced conductive electrodes and better material science. Usually they are made from a combination of carbon nanotube 'wires' preventing them from overheating and melting. The ring portion is of Veyrinite-laced, Carbon Nanotube material densely woven into sheets and then pressed into a more solid form. When powered up, the wires cause the air molecules nearby to become ionised by stripping the electrons away from them. The ions are then pushed away from the anode, but become attracted towards the direction of the collector with the moving particles diffusely spread out into an expanding ion cloud, and collide frequently with neutral air molecules which results in movement or stationary hovering.

The drawback is that it can only operate within an atmosphere and a suitable powersource must be used in order for the system to be viable.
