This is an assault rifle made for the Occhestan Republic.
”Do I like the M12? Heck yeah! What is there not to like about it? The bigger slug and higher speed makes a world a difference. With the ol’ M6 it would take 2,3 sometimes even 4 hits to down one of those Helashio rebels. With this baby, one shot center body and BAM they are out for the count.
Oh and you gotta hear what my buddy in Serrilla found you could do with one of these. Now the XO would be pissed off if he heard we used ‘em like this but let it be known that these suckers can be used to make a pretty good flame thrower.” Cpl Av’serl Occhesta, 12th Company, 7th Regiment, 4th Divison, OSF in a interview.
Designer: Cabinet of Science & Technology (COSI), OCG Manufacturer: Cabinet of Industry (CI), OCG Used by: OSF, LSDF, available to other recognized security and military forces in the Lor system. Year of Initial Requisition: 86 PR Price: 1854
Name: Selectable Assault Rifle, Lightweight (SARL) Type: Lightweight Selectable Assault Rifle Model: M-7B Role: Multi-purpose Assault Rifle
Designed as an all purpose lightweight multipurpose assault rifle, the M7b has performed exceptionally in its 13 years of service, both on the ground forces and space side. The successor to the M8 AR, the M7 proved superior in every area, offering better range, accuracy, and take-down capabilities than its predecessor. Despite its superior performance its acceptance was not easy since it used a new 6.67×18.96mm round versus the older 5.43×15.29mm round of the M6. However, the firm lobbying of several groups eventually prevailed and the M12a was made the standard arm of the OSF in 86 PR and had replaced the M8 almost entirely by 89 PR.
Minor revisions were made in the M7b (mainly to shear off a bit of weight) in 94 PR. Though its future is looking rather unsure as the main arms of the military due to the prevalence of heavily augmented bions and power armor and developments of such weapons as the M22 GAR, it has received accolades from the troops and command alike in its lifetime. Even after the M22 GAR is approved as the main arms of the OSF and LSDF (both navy and army), the M7 is expected to maintain a strong presence for use by unaugmented soldiers.
Edit Note: Since it was designed predoinminatly for use by Occhestans (who where its primary users by far), the M7B will remain the standard arm, alongside the M22 GAR, of the OCG military and OSF after the split with the Matriarchy.
The M7 uses a bullpup configuration, although it does posses a extendible stock if such is needed. The grip is placed about midway down the length of the weapons main body. The receiver assembly is mounted slightly behind the grip near the weapons butt. The ammunition clips are straight and mount at a angle to the body, aiming forward. The propellant cartridge retention point is immediately behind the clip, also angled forward.
The top of the weapon powered rail to hold a scope or other attachment with a pair of iron sights placed underneath should the scope fail or not be mounted. The forward grip also contains a powered and a unpowered rail assembly. The first is for use with attachments such as the M113 grenade launcher, the other as a attachment point for bipods, bayonets, and other static items.
The weapon has 4 different standard-issue barrels, each field swappable. All of the standard barrels have a flash suppressor; with the sharpshooter’s considerably larger so it can assist in reducing the considerable recoil that configuration is capable of generating. The shortest barrel is intended for use in tight areas, such as urban settings or boarding operations. The longest one is intended for use by the units designated marksman (or a sniper). The automatic rifle barrel is midway between the rifle and sharpshooter versions in length and has small cooling fins to assist in passive cooling of the barrel during extended automatic fire. A sound suppressor barrel (in the sharpshooter configuration) and suppressor attachment (compatible with all barrel configurations, replaces the flash suppressor) are available for special operations units.
The weapons fire train (receiver assembly, barrel, and associated components) are manufactured from a high strength, high hardness ceramic metalloid, giving them a extremely long usage lifetime and excellent heat dissipation characteristics. The ceramic does not meaningfully change shape throughout the weapons operational temperature range. The weapons body is made from a high strength, light weight titanium-sulfide composite mesh, providing high strength for very low weight. The grip and weapon body does not contact the barrel, which is attached directly to the receiver assembly to prevent minor movement from the user from interfering with aiming.
The weapon body contains the hardened firing and control electronics of the weapon. A connection port for a neural interface is placed on the rear of the scope rail. The weapon is fully ambidextrous, with the fire selector and safety located on both sides of the weapon.

Length (max/ min):
Note: The trinary propellant system used by the M7 allows it to alter round velocity through a very wide range to suit the circumstance. Thus, the numbers below are maximums. (meters/second)
Recoil varies greatly depending on the propellant charge and rate of fire, ranging from light for the lowest propellant charge to extreme for the largest. Maximum propellant charge on the sharpshooter configuration can break and/or dislocate the shoulder and arm of unaugmented soldiers.
Damage depends greatly on the propellant setting, the round used, and the target composition. It can vary from heavy nonlethal (DR 0) to very severe (DR 3).
Note: Since the core of all three configurations is the same, all are technically capable of full automatic fire. However, it is not recommended to do such at all with the sharpshooter variant or for extended periods of time with the rifle or compact versions. All values in rounds-per-minute.
Name: 6.67×18.96 mm OSF standard caseless. Variants available: Ball (standard), tracer, incendiary, armor-piercing, anti-personnel, frangible, explosive, match, chemical, tracker, nonlethal, Rysa.
All configurations can use either the short, long, or box magazine, though the rifle and compact configurations usually use a straight or long magazine for reasons of bulk and weight. The short magazine is usually used with the sharpshooter configuration due to its lighter weight and lower profile. The first value is the mass of the empty clip, the second is of a full clip.
The M12 uses a liquid trinary propellant system. Two of the chemicals consist of a very powerful explosive propellant and the last is a strong oxidant. This produces much greater propellant force per gram, produces a extremely clean combustion (leaving essentially no residue), and can fire in oxygen-free environments (such as underwater or in a vacuum).
The trinary propellant is kept under high pressure in extremely high-strength titanium-sulfide vessels in a cartridge. The cartridges are not field-refillable and contain the superconductive coils that serve as the weapons battery main (a auxiliary exits within the weapon that can operate the scope and other powered components for periods of up to a hour). Two versions of the cartridge exist:
A round is first loaded from the clip and chambered into the breach by a powered bolt. The bolt has a indent into which the trinary propellant is injected as a fine aerosol. A electrical igniter within the bolt then triggers, igniting the propellant which accelerates the bullet down the rifled barrel. The mechanism powering the loaded, bolt, and propellant pump are highly redundant and extremely reliable.
The weapon itself needs very little maintenance as the propellant combustion is very clean, but the weapon is field strippable should maintenance prove necessary.
The M12 is classified as military hardware by the Ocheestan Ministry of Defense and it is there for illegal for civilians to posses the rifle or any of its configuration components within OCG territory. The weapon is only sold to agents of recognized military or police forces.
