This system is not obsolete and is primarily used for in-system craft only.
A primitive, yet efficient life support system that has been used for centuries, the standard Recycling and Filtration System is only useful onboard ships for in-system travel and doesn't have the range necessary for travel outside Jaspis.
The life-support system purifies the air, adds fresh oxygen, keeps the pressure at sea level, heats and cools the air, and provides drinking and wash water. The ship is pressurized to sea level with 30 percent oxygen and 63 percent nitrogen, comparable to Abwehr's atmosphere. The air is circulated through lithium hydroxide/charcoal canisters which remove carbon dioxide. The canisters are changed on a regular basis. Excess heat from the ship and electronics is collected by a circulating coolant water system and transferred to radiator panels on the ships hull where it is dissipated. Fuel cells are used to produce about several hundred liters of water each hour. It is stored in tanks, and excess water is dumped overboard. The lavatory units collect and process body waste, and also collects wash water from the personal hygiene stations.
