A method of propulsion that has been in use for centuries, the typical turbine design hasn't changed at all. Using steam or electricity to spin the turbine itself, the turbine is used to turn a type of propeller at the end of the ship, also called a 'screw'. The one major thing that has changed over the centuries has been the powerplant used to heat water into steam to turn the turbine. Ranging from fossil fuels to nuclear power, a wide variety of powerplants have been used.
Currently, a Fusion Reactor is used in military vessels to heat water into steam to go through the system and propel the vessel. Civilian designs prefer the use of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Engines to produce electricity to turn the turbines.
