Designed in AF 260 (YE 32), Quick-Hardening Cast Foam (or Insta-Cast) is aerosol can about 12 centimeter-diameter (5') can that contains a quick setting plaster material used to secure fractured or broken limbs temporarily until they can be properly treated at a medical facility. To properly apply the plaster, the limb must be stabilized before aiming the can at a distance of 15 to 20 centimeters (six to eight inches) away from it. The plaster must coat the leg completely so an entire can is normally used in the process. After the plaster is applied, it takes ten to fifteen seconds to harden enough to wrap a Dorntuch-fiber bandage around it, making the limb secure enough for the patient to be transported.
