Surgical Nanites

Developed in YE 38 by Advancer Enterprises as an alternatively to certain highly invasive surgeries, Surgical Nanites are programmable molecular scale semi-organic machines intended to perform various non-invasive surgeries, such as certain brain and heart surgeries, as well as implant various small scale synthetics into a human body.

How Surgical Nanites Work

Surgical Nanites are, like other Advancer Nanomachines, semi-organic molecular scale machines composed of organic molecules and inorganic components, created to perform a specific task; in this case the task is in performing surgery on a small scale. The nanites are the closest out of Advancer's line of medicinal nanomachines to what people commonly think of as nanomachines, capable of knitting and cutting organic materials on a small scale.

The Surgical Nanites are constructed on a cellular level in a synthetic process inspired by mitosis, a splicing together of organic molecules and synthetic components. Each Nanite has a quasi-organic nucleus which serves as the nanite's command center: instructions and blueprints are encoded into the nucleus' DNA when the nanites are . The Nanite also contains a number of organelles within its structure that are used to carry out tasks and move the Nanite. Power to the nanite is generated through the process of Cellular Respiration, the process by which glucose is converted into ATP(Adenosine Triphosphate) which are used to power the nanite's functions by breaking off one of the phosphates in ATP in a process known as hydrolysis.

Surgical Nanites are normally stored in a ph neutral saline solution, which prevents bacterial infection of the nanites and prevents the nanites themselves from activating. Before injection, the solution with the nanites is fed through an encoder machine, which feeds specific instruction codes to the Nanites' nuclei. When injected into the patient's bloodstream by a syringe(the nanites are too large for a hypospray to work), the patient's body temperature and internal environment activate the nanite swarm. which work together to achieve the desired task. The Nanites are incapable of performing large scale surgeries such as organ and limb removal or transplant, and are more attuned to performing smaller, delicate tasks.

Nanite DNA Encoder

The Nanite DNA Encoder is the device used to encode specific instructions onto the Surgical Nanites. In form it is a small, labtop sized machine with an interface unit to receive commands and output data, and a slot in which a container of 10 doses worth of Nanites in solution can be inserted. The DNA Encoder can be activated with a simple command, can can receive information wireless from nearby terminals; when active the Encoder writes deliberate instructions onto the Nuclear DNA of the Nanites.

Dangers of Surgical Nanites

Like all Advancer nanomachines, Surgical Nanites are inherently safe to use. The caveat is that a small percent of the population will experience allergic reactions to the nanites, ranging from coughing and swelling to anaphylaxis in extreme cases.

Pricing

Surgical Nanites are relatively inexpensive compared to the cost of performing actual surgery, and so the cost for purchasing them by dosage is fairly small. The DNA Encoder Device is a relatively simple piece of medical machinery tha
