The XL-Type Quantum Computer is a physically large, powerful type of quantum computer hardware which is typically used as a central processing computer for large technological structures, such as large starships, space stations, or even large ground-based buildings. It was released by Origin Industries in YE 45.

A development of the earlier X-type Quantum Computer, based off the original's full-sized 'Node' structure, the XL-type quantum computer loses the modularity of its ancestor in favor of greater power. Developed in conjunction with Origin's newer type of Destiny Core, it is however a standalone system that can be used to run any computer operating system or program that requires a powerful quantum computer. With project goals like greater speed and power at the cost of modularity and portability, the XL-type integrated the internal structure of the X-type into a single structure, in order to increase the efficiency of operations performed by the computer.

The XL-type Quantum computer was first utilized to perform an infrastructure upgrade to Dawn Station in YE 45.

The XL-Type Quantum computer is physically housed in a one meter by one meter cube, which has numerous access panels on its outside, as well as various plugs and sockets to connect it into a structure's systems. On the 'front' of the cube is a large tubular socket which is houses the computer's primary core. The primary core is typically a Destiny Core, however there are agnostic cores available which can be loaded with the user's preferred operating system.

The XL-Type Quantum computer is a stationary computer, intended to be built into the structure that it is used to operate. it must be tied into a power source to function, however, it does contain a backup capacitor system which will allow it to operate for 2 hours at normal power, or for up to 24 hours in a reduced performance mode.

The XL-Type Quantum computer is best used as the primary computer core on starships between 500 and 1000 meters long. For larger ships and structures, multiple cores may still be needed, and for smaller ships and craft, the X-type Quantum Computer or XS-Type Quantum Computer is preferable.

The XL-Type is a single module stationary computer, however, it does have individually replaceable components, as well as optional accessories.
